Tomorrow, WRITA members and public-sector technology leaders from across the West will gather in Salt Lake City for the 2026 WRITA Fall Summit.
The agenda includes keynote presentations, peer-partner solution sessions, leadership insights, and time to reconnect with colleagues. Yet some of the most valuable moments may happen outside the formal program: an introduction before breakfast, a question after a session, or a conversation with someone who sees a familiar challenge from a different perspective.
A conference becomes more valuable when you attend with intention. Before the Summit begins, consider what you most want to take home.
Identify one challenge you are ready to discuss openly. Choose one session outside your usual area of expertise. Introduce yourself to at least three people you have not met. Ask a speaker or peer one question that moves beyond the presentation. Visit partners with a real problem in mind rather than simply collecting information.
If you are attending with colleagues, compare your priorities before the first session. Divide sessions when it makes sense, then schedule time to share what each person learned. The goal is not to return with the largest stack of notes. It is to return with a few useful ideas, stronger relationships, and a shared sense of what to do next.
This year’s theme, “From Blueprint to Innovation: Draft the Future this Fall,” is an invitation to participate. Every attendee brings experience that can help shape the conversation. Your questions matter. Your lessons learned matter. Your willingness to share may become the starting point for another agency’s next success.
Travel safely, arrive curious, and make room for the unexpected conversation. It may become the most valuable part of the Summit.
